A gorgeous excerpt from Standish O’Grady’s “Through the Mountain Gates of Ulster” from his 1897 book, The Flight of the Eagle. Red Hugh O'Donnell (30 October 1572 – 10 September 1602) - the last champion of the Celtic and Gaelic soul of Ireland - and his ride north to freedom, where he remembers the ancestral calling of the ancient ones. He is kissed by the three Morrígna and becomes a servant of the Queen, Éiru, or Kathleen ní Houlihan.
