Map & Data Access:
The Ireland West Camino, or The Way of the Sun, is not currently waymarked on the ground. Like several of the other Irish Caminos, it may take time to jump through the beauracratic hoops. However, it is easily walkable. Downloadable maps are available or online maps for preliminary viewing. Geospatial files are now available for field utilization or desktop browsing at the bottom of this page.
You can also click on the links below the YouTube video below on your smartphone to download the ArcGIS Field Maps application on your smartphone for the app with the routes (free if using as a guest). Route maps are currently available via ArcGIS Field Maps or a downloadable GPX file of the route so that one can navigate without a smart phone. Only the Field Maps version contains other important information like accommodations, sacred sites, archaeological sites, places to eat, etc.
Introduction to Route
The YouTube video on the left was filmed on site while walking the revitalized Ireland West Camino from February 2024 and March of 2025. The video provides a excellent coverage of the enitree route. This is for the 27-day pilgrimage route beginning in Downpatrick and ending at Croagh Patrick.
Map Download or Viewer:
Download GPX file of the entire map:
Open the digital map in ArcGIS Field Maps*:
Or view it online via ArcGIS Online (no app required):
* NOTE: You will need to download ArcGIS Field Maps on your smart phone first for the mobile version to work. Do not log in. When it opens the log in page, select "Skip Sign In". In the "Search" bar under "Maps", type in "Ireland West Camino - The Way of the Sun". As of now, it will only work while walking if you are online or have data streaming. The first link above, "Ireland West Camino GPX download" is the best way to navigate with a GPS in the field in Ireland without needing to use a data plan on your smartphone. It only contains the route, no other information.
